There are actually two video adapters, one of which is the nVidia 540M, the other an Intel integrated adapter. There's nothing really wrong, and if you'll be using this laptop off AC power a lot, it's actually a plus. It's squishy, and cramped, but I read about this before purchasing, and it's within acceptable parameters. This is obviously done to save money, and I'm not complaining, I knew there were only 2 slots going in. The markings for the other two dimm slots are on the board, but the mounts are not soldered on. Also, I wish the motherboard would have shipped with the N53's standard 4 memory slots, instead of just two. Having one 2gb stick and one 4gb stick is really strange, and a big no no in a dual channel memory configuration. It's adequate at 6gb, but should have been configured with 8. Blue ray playback is great, whether its on the built in screen, or HDMI to my HDTV (with audio included, nice).Ĭons: There are only a few minor things I would consider cons. The 540m video card is great for gaming, playing Portal 2, Star Craft 2, and others at high settings. Memory is adequate (though it ships in a strange 2gbx4gb configuration), but I already swapped in two 4gb sticks. Pros: This lappy was a great deal at 700 clams.
#ASUS N53SV WIRELESS CARD UPDATE#
I'll update my review if/when they ever respond. A couple of days ago I tried asking the first tech if he could help speed things up but no response from him either. It has been 6 days since then with no response. So I sent him a copy of the email thread with the first tech. I did that and referenced the case I had already opened, but the first thing the RMA tech asked for was details on what the problem was (I guess he didn't/couldn't look at the case I referenced). So he gave me a link to open an RMA request.

Overall Review: The tech had me try a few things, driver update, resetting BIOS (though it had never been changed) and reloading windows to the default settings (even though the only thing I had changed was removing bloatware) but none of those worked.

So I tried a few different drivers and when none worked I opened a case with ASUS.(continued in other thoughts due to character limitation) After researching that issue I found that sometimes people managed to fix it with driver updates but usually it was a bad video card and they ended up RMAing it.

It has an error code 43: windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. But that was an easy fix, I found that it had come with one driver that had been updated already straight out of the box, by selecting to roll back the driver to the previous version that fixed the driver problem.Ĥ) The Nvidia card was DOA. Or at least it would have been, if it worked.Ĭons: 1) It's a bit heavier than I expected, though that's not a problem really.Ģ) It came with a ton of bloatware, which isn't a big deal since you can uninstall it, it's just a time waster.ģ) The driver that came loaded for the wireless card doesn't work properly, it won't connect to some networks.
